The new apartment complex at the corner of Boudewijn Büchstraat and Annie M.G. Schmidtstraat in Utrecht has been inaugurated. The building is the fourth in the row, placed into a green setting and characterised by its robust omnipresence. The shape was created in reference to typical American barns, with the façade being clad in black steel façade-slabs combined with warm wood. Housing corporation Portaal rents out the location to care organisation Reinaerde.

SUSTAINABLE AND VALUE-RETAINING (CARE) PROPERTY

The roof of the apartment complex is equipped with 200 PV panels; in addition, the complex is connected to district heating. The façade consists mainly of metal cladding, supplemented by wooden façade parts. A special feature of this project is that the apartments are designed in such a way that they can be converted into regular social housing.
