Building permit for micro-apartments in Mönchengladbach, Germany

  1. residential construction
  2. innovation
  3. architectural sustainability

The city of Mönchengladbach has granted planning permission for the construction of 32 micro-apartments and 53 furnished one-room flats ('boarding rooms') at Aachener Straße 1-5. It is a special housing project because the residential block will be built in a modular way. This type of prefabrication is expected to save 40% of the usual construction time and thus mean less inconvenience for local residents during construction. Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021.

RESPONSE TO DEMAND FOR SMALL FLATS

The new construction is a powerful example of how to react appropriately to a changing housing market. For in Mönchengladbach too, the demand for small flats is increasing. The target groups are students, senior citizens and classic one-person households, but also young professionals and expats working in Mönchengladbach for a period of time.
